Now DJ Dug Boogie is focused on “The Stew” and putting out quality hip-hop production. A DJ with experience in providing only quality hip-hop that everyone can appreciate.
Hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, DJ Dug Boogie has been a fixture in the upstate hip-hop scene since picking up his first pair of Technics 1200s in 1994. Over the past three decades, he has built a reputation as one of the region’s most dedicated crate-diggers and turntablists, bringing the authentic boom-bap sound of the golden era to audiences across the Southeast.
His journey has taken him from intimate local stages to larger venues and festivals throughout the Carolinas, sharing bills with some of underground hip-hop’s most respected names. He has shared the stage with El Da Sensei of the Artifacts, played back-to-back sets with legendary DJs like DJ Hush, and supported live performances from heavyweights such as Sadat X (Brand Nubian), Hakim Green (Channel Live), Dynas, Supastition, U George, and the collective Scienz of Life. Each collaboration sharpened his ear and deepened his connection to the culture.
Dug Boogie’s signature sound is built on a foundation of dusty, soul-sampled drum breaks, crisp hi-hat programming, and carefully layered vocal cuts that nod to hip-hop’s roots while keeping the energy forward-moving. His turntable setup is anchored by a pair of Technics SL-1200MK2s running through a Rane TTM-57SL mixer, supplemented by a Pioneer DDJ-SZ controller for digital integration and a Shure SM7B mic for live on-air commentary during his Twitch streams. It’s a hybrid analog-digital rig that lets him pull rare vinyl finds from his crates and weave them seamlessly into his productions.
It was the classic boom-bap of the mid-90s — DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, and the Alchemist — that first inspired Dug Boogie to pick up the turntables. Those producers taught him that hip-hop is about the art of the break: digging deep for the perfect sample, letting the drums breathe, and never losing the groove. That philosophy runs through everything he does, from his vinyl-only sets to his recent studio productions.
Today, Dug Boogie is focused on building The Hop Stew into a full-fledged platform for quality hip-hop. He is producing original tracks, curating episodes for his Podomatic mixshow, and streaming live every week on Twitch from his home studio in Greenville. Whether you’re a longtime head or a new listener discovering the culture, The Hop Stew is your invitation to pull up a chair and feel the rhythm.
